Children grow up in a diverse society and notice differences early on – and they also pick up the judgements, prejudices and one-sided views that surround them. Anti-bias education (vorurteilsbewusste Bildung und Erziehung) (the anti-bias approach) aims for every child to feel valued in their identity and to feel that they belong, for children to experience diversity as normal and enriching, for them to think critically about one-sidedness, prejudice and injustice, and for them to be encouraged to take action against exclusion and discrimination. This calls for practitioners to take a reflective stance, to look at their own images and prejudices, and to shape materials, language, space and everyday life in a bias-aware way. This course teaches the basics, the four goals of anti-bias education, work on your own stance and practical implementation – as a contribution to fairness, participation and respectful coexistence for all children.
