The move from day-care centre (Kita) to school is one of the most significant transitions in childhood. How it goes often shapes the start of school life. This comprehensive course (approx. 16 learning units (UE)) shows in 12 modules how early years practitioners can shape this transition in a way that is sensitive to attachment and empowering: the importance of the transition and the transition approach, a modern understanding of “school readiness” (Schulfähigkeit) beyond letter drills, the learning areas of the final Kita year, cooperation between Kita and primary school, working in partnership with parents, supporting particularly vulnerable children, and the practical design of the pre-school year. Each module offers learning objectives, well-founded learning text with visualisations, an in-depth section, a case study and a practice transfer exercise. Note: self-study course for developing pedagogical skills.
