Children are creative by nature: they paint, model, sing, dance, make and invent. Through this creative activity they make sense of the world, express themselves and develop their personalities. Music and aesthetic education nurtures these creative powers: aesthetic perception (perceiving with all the senses), art and design, music, dance and dramatic play. The focus is on the creative process rather than the “pretty” product – and children’s art is valued as the child’s own expression instead of being replaced by “template crafting”. This self-study course explains what aesthetic education is, how to support making and creating, music and dance, what role the practitioner plays as an enabler, how to value creativity and how to embed a creative culture.
