Why do some children develop well despite difficult circumstances, while others break down under even minor stresses? The key is resilience – inner psychological strength, the ability to cope with stress and crises and to develop well despite difficult circumstances. Resilience is not innate but develops over time – and can be fostered. The day-care centre (Kita) is an important place for fostering resilience: through secure relationships, self-efficacy, healthy ways of handling feelings, social competence and an empowering stance, it can help children grow strong for life. This course explains what resilience is, which protective factors strengthen it, how to foster the key resilience factors (relationships, self-efficacy, emotion regulation, social competence, optimism), how to strengthen resilience in everyday life and in children under strain, and how your own stance and collaboration contribute to this.
