Mental health is just as important for children as physical health. Children, too, can be under emotional strain and can show signs of psychological difficulty – anxiety, sadness and withdrawal, difficulties with regulation (sleep, eating), psychosomatic complaints and more. The day-care centre (Kita) has an important role: it promotes the mental health of all children (prevention), it notices difficulties attentively and with understanding, it supports children under strain in a stabilising way and it involves parents and specialist services where needed – without diagnosing or treating anyone itself. This course conveys an appreciative stance, a basic understanding of emotional wellbeing and of mental health difficulties, ways of promoting wellbeing and offering supportive guidance, cooperation within the network, and how to deal with stressful situations and crises.
