Children are not small objects of care but independent holders of rights. This insight has fundamentally changed pedagogy. This comprehensive course (approx. 16 teaching units of 45 minutes each) takes you through the world of children’s rights in 12 modules: the historical development and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), its four general principles (non-discrimination, best interests of the child, right to life and development, respect for the views of the child), the three pillars of protection, provision and participation, the right to participation and complaint that is central to the day-care centre (Kita), protection from violence, the rights to education, play, health and identity, and the anchoring in German law (Basic Law (GG), Book VIII of the German Social Code (SGB VIII), German Civil Code (BGB)). Each module offers learning objectives, well-founded text with visualisations, an in-depth section, a case study and a transfer-to-practice exercise. At the end: self-reflection, checklists and confirmation of participation.
