Injections, infusions and catheters breach the body’s protective barrier – they help, but carry risks of infection and injury. This course (approx. 10 teaching units of 45 minutes each) conveys in 12 modules how to support invasive procedures safely: from responsibility and delegation through subcutaneous and intramuscular injection, infusions and vascular access, the urinary catheter and its care to the prevention of catheter-associated infections, asepsis, recognising complications, safety (needlestick protection) and dignified interaction. Each module offers learning objectives, well-founded learning text, an in-depth section, a case study and a transfer-to-practice exercise. At the end: self-reflection, checklists and confirmation of participation. Demanding invasive tasks (e.g. i.v.) require special qualification; the course conveys the fundamentals and nursing support.
Course objectives:
- Understand responsibility, delegation and asepsis in invasive procedures
- Place subcutaneous and intramuscular injections in context and support them safely
- Know the basics of infusions and vascular access
- Care for urinary catheters professionally and prevent infections
- Recognise complications early and pass them on
- Observe safety (needlestick) and dignity
Self-study without supervision, assignments or assessment of learning progress by instructors; the voluntary self-reflection is for your own orientation only. Your confirmation of participation becomes available once you have marked all modules as done yourself.
