Pain is one of the most common and most underestimated problems in care – especially in people who can no longer express it. This course (approx. 10 teaching units of 45 minutes each) teaches safe pain management in 12 modules: from the fundamentals through pain recognition and assessment (with scales, also in dementia) and drug pain therapy (WHO analgesic ladder, opioids) as well as non-drug methods to the DNQP national expert standard, chronic pain and empathetic support. Each module offers learning objectives, well-founded learning text, an in-depth section, a case study and a transfer-to-practice exercise. At the end: self-reflection, checklists and confirmation of participation. Pain therapy is prescribed by the doctor; the course teaches the nursing task: recognise, assess, relieve, support, document.
Course aims:
- Understand pain as an important, often underestimated problem
- Recognise and assess pain systematically (also in dementia)
- Know the WHO analgesic ladder and pain therapy
- Apply non-drug methods of pain relief
- Implement the expert standard on pain management
- Document pain, support the person and treat pain in the team
Self-study without supervision, assignments or assessment of learning progress by instructors; the voluntary self-reflection is for your own orientation only. Your confirmation of participation becomes available once you have marked all modules as done yourself.
